"Where Dem Dollas At" - The Legacy of The Late Rapper Gangsta Boo

Updated: Apr 29

I believe in divine intervention coming from a 80s baby, but Lola Chantrell Michell was from 1979 and she was a Virgo to be wrecked with. Born August 7th, 1979, she was known on stage as Gangster Boo.

Lola Chantrelle Mitchell was born on August 7, 1979, in Memphis, Tennessee. After her parents divorced. She started rapping at around the age of 14. At the age of 15 in 1994 she was discovered by rappers Lord Infamous and one of the founding members of the rap group "Three Six Mafia", DJ Paul. That same year, she recorded “Cheefa Da Reefa,” her first solo song with the group. Her most well known hit, “Where Dem Dollas At?,” from her 1998 debut album, "Enquiring Minds", really showed her creative side and the video was a great representative of getting those coins and financial independence. Boo was featured on the group's 1995 debut album "Mystic Stylz" and continued to collaborate with the group for five more albums. She ultimately left the group in 2001 to prioritize her solo career. In 2013, she joined the Three 6 Mafia spin-off group "Da Mafia Six and was significantly featured on their debut mix "6th Commandments". She departed from the group in 2014.

On January 1st 2023, Mitchell was discovered unresponsive at her mother’s home in Memphis and pronounced dead at the scene. She was 43. Following her death, Boo’s mother addressed her daughter’s death in a statement.

“The Mitchell family would like to thank everyone for their condolences regarding the untimely death of Lola ‘Gangsta Boo’ Mitchell,” she said. “The family is asking for your continued prayers and privacy as we process the loss of our loved one.”

After the news of her death later that day, DJ Paul and Juicy J both shared tributes to their former bandmate on Instagram. DJ Paul shared a caption-less photo of the late rapper, while Juicy J posted a snapshot of the pair accompanied by a broken-heart emoji. “Man we was jus together three weeks ago,” Lil Jon commented on DJ Paul’s post. “Rest well queen.”
